TRIENNIAL CONFERENCE
Nightingale Centre, Great Hucklow
October 2008
Women’s League members gathered in Great Hucklow in early October to spend 2 nights at Nightingale House.
Rev. Penny Johnson (President) conducted a service in the Chapel (by kind permission of Rev. David Shaw) and reminded members that as we commenced our second century it was time to look forward.
The evening entertainment was provided by Phil Croft, organist of Upper Chapel in Sheffield, and his versatility on piano, harmonica, and accordion was astonishing.
On Wednesday two sessions were led by Gina Ullman of Staylbridge – a Soroptimist; and Judy Cooper of Buxton – a WI Advisor and member of Great Hucklow WI. These two ladies spoke on changes that their organisations had had to undertake, and how it had been achieved. Both took a question and answer session.
An afternoon trip to Bakewell was an enjoyable break and we enjoyed some good weather.
In the evening Dot Hewerdine acted as facilitator and led us through what had been said in the morning by the speakers, and what we felt we needed to look at in the comings months.
Thursday morning was take up with the usual business meeting of Central Committee.
Miss Dilys Evans of Aberdare Branch in SE Wales has accepted the post of President Elect for 2009/10
