UESN EVENTS No.2

UESN Meeting at GA Chester 2006

The Green Man is the ancient spirit of the woodlands and his mask can be found carved in the masonry of many an old church and cathedral. He is older than the churches though, older than Christianity itself. Exactly who he is and what he brings and why his presence is felt as much now as it was by the old stone carvers is not really known.

At our gathering at Chester our worship centred around this magical, mystical character. His history was told to the compliment of ancient music and song. There were modern poems and older poems recited in his honour, songs were sung about him. There was meditation to create a visualisation of woodland and tree and after that personal prayers and thoughts were written on green leaves that were then strewn around an effigy of the Green Man as offerings from our deep selves.

We left him with gentle chanting and the fading tapping and and jangling of a solitary tambourine.
